United Malays National Organization (UMNO) next president will be Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak next year, when the unpopular out-going PM Abdullah Badawi steps down.
The eldest son of Abdul Razak, the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, received an overwhelming 138 out of 191 branches votes.
In recent history, the President of the ruling coalition will be the next Prime Minister. This is good news for Najib ahead of next year’s party elections in March 24-28th.
It looks like he will stand unopposed as the only rival he has is Razaleigh Hamzah, former Finance Minister, or more known as Ku Li. He has only 1 nomination.
Although a likely candidate for the next Prime Minster, Najib Razak is not without scandals himself. He has been linked to the murder of Mongolian murder of translator and part-time model Shaariibuugiin Altantuyaa and political conspiracy against Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Of course he denies it all and as he celebrates his victory, there’s a shroud of controversy and doubts for the next Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Najib can be a better target now, but you have to fight BN, its machinery as well as all the perks of a ruling party. They has a known agenda and team to work with especially in Sabah and Sarawak. All these both of us know.
The public has a very high expectation from you because the silent majority are getting fed-up with BN promises as well as the rising cost of politics(vis-a-vis corruption). Our TI rating is going down instead of going down under Pak Lah. Indonesia is doing better than us now in TI rating. PK now have five states under its rule. Now everyone will be watching how well PK manages the five States under its belt.
In Sarawak, PKR is not only fighting BN but DAP, SNAP and STAR. In fact PKR helped BN to win back Pending, Sarikei, Sibu, Sibuti and Limbang in the last Parliamentary Elections. Is PKR going to to help BN Sarawak to retain power again in the coming election by PKR continual quarrel with DAP Sarawak and now going for old SNAP areas while not consolidating in PBB strongholds? By giving Sarawak to BN, how are you going to become PM by guaranteeing 29 Parliamentary seats to BN? If you get these 29 seats how are you going to PM by not working together with DAP in West Malaysia?
Malaysians need better choices now. Can Pakatan Rakyat(PR) work out a common agenda and understanding like BN? Can PAS, DAP and PKR learn that only by working together with other smaller parties in Sabah and Sarawak you can have a common symbol and agenda? Seven parties are needed for that common symbol. All you need is four more. PKR needs to find them and work together with them if you need the seats from Sabah and Sarawak to take over from BN.
