![]() The Man Who Beat Up Anwar Still Receive Allowance Under Pension ActPublished Dec 19th, 2008
There was a debate on the Pensions (Amendment) Bill in the Dewan Rakyat over the money still being paid by the government to former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Rahim Noor, who was convicted of assaulting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in 1998. Usually civil servants who was convicted under the law and received jail term of a year or fined RM2,000 or more, will have their pension withdrawn. But it seems the former ISG was receiving payment, despite being sent to jail for two months and fined RM2,000. So he should have his pension withdrawn right? Well Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department responded to MP M. Kula Segaran from DAP Ipoh Bara who said “the man who beat the former Deputy Prime Minister was paid a pension but the victim did not receive a sen”, saying that Tan Sri Rahim Noor was actually receiving alimentary allowance from the government, instead of a pension. As for Anwar, he backed up MP M. Kula Segaran saying that he had not been paid a single sen in pension while in prison. Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz further explains, that the Pensions Act provides for an alimentary allowance but at the discretion of the King. ![]()
