More than 2,000 people gathered for the funeral of Teoh Beng Hock in Alor Gajah, Malacca. During the funeral rites, which began at 9.45am, Teoh’s pregnant fiancee Soh Sher Wei read out a moving tribute.
Soh said she misses Teoh dearly and promised that bring up their unborn child for him. Many were in tears as they listened to her.
Teoh Beng Hock was a Malaysian journalist and political aide to Ean Yong Hian Wah, a member of the Selangor state legislative assembly and state executive council. On 15 July 2009, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) took Teoh into custody for questioning about allegations of corruption.
Teoh was found dead the next morning on the rooftop of a building adjacent to the MACC offices. Pakatan Rakyat leaders and a number of federal government officials have called for a Royal Commission of inquiry into Teoh’s death.
