The Telugus celebrate Ugadi, Telegu new year based on the lunar calendar as compared to solar calendar which is celebrated by Tamils and Sikhs. Sankranthi is another major festival for Telugus which is also celebrated as ponggal by Tamils.
In keeping with the 1Malaysia concept, the national Ponggal festival, the harvest thanksgiving celebrated by Tamils, will be open to all races.
