Datuk Yong Teck Lee president of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has denied claims that they will join Anwar’s Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
He said they want to seek reforms with the ruling coalition but not at a compromise of their objective to gain autonomy for Sabah.
Datuk Yong Teck Lee, SAPP
But regardless the situation, SAPP will always put its objective of forming a more autonomous state government as its priority. SAPP is not planning to join any national alliance and they understand and respect our stand. We are of the same opinion that the agreement is unfair and can be reviewed. If even the constitution can be amended there is no reason why the petroleum agreement cannot be reviewed. Perhaps it would not be as shocking if the Federal Government refuses to review it as they are the one who benefit from it. But what is puzzling is why the State Government itself don’t want it to be reviewed. Even though the Chief Minister has announced that the fuel royalty agreement will not be reviewed, I don’t think this matter will go away”
