![]() Najib releases 13 ISA detainees and lifted newspaper banPublished Apr 4th, 2009
Responding to Anwar’s challenge, looks like the new prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is making headways. On his first day as prime minister he freed 13 ISA detainees and lifted the ban that was imposed on two Opposition newspaper. I might say it’s a positive start, but then again everyone is watching Najib’s every move and expecting his hardline stance to take shape. But then again if reform is what Malaysia is looking for, then this is the kind of action that’s needed to be done. And more of it hopefully. The current buzz is that our country’s sixth prime minister is mentioning to get the Internal Security Act to be reviewed. It’s an ancient law in my opinion created to resist communists and subversive elements, but has been used for all the wrong reasons these days as you might read in the reports. I’m optimistic about Najib’s slogan of “Bersih, Cekap, Amanah” and “Work with me, not for me”, but we do have a tough crowd to convince. ![]()
