![]() Opposition Loses Perak to Ruling PartyPublished Feb 5th, 2009
Pakatan Rakyat three-party opposition alliance which hold a slight majority in the northern state of Perak with 31 parliamentary seats, lost the northern state when three of its lawmakers defected. The parliamentary seats now equals at 28 for both sides and the ruling National Front claims the new three independents lawmakers would vote for them. That will leave Perak’s legislature majority being wrangled from the Opposition into Barisan Nasional hands. The takeover was officially endorsed by the state’s royal ruler, Sultan Azlan Shah. Anwar and party called fresh elections but was denied, and are now trying to appeal against the ruler’s decision and has accused the National Front of bribery for the defection. The ruling party has denied such claims. ![]()
