The New Economic Policy which was set up in 1971 by Tun Abdul Razak to help the ethnic Malays and indigenous group in terms of housing, employment, education and business will soon be dismantled as promised by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak; the son of Tun Abdul Razak himself, when he become PM in March next year.
Najib said in a recent interview “If we do not change, the people will change us. In the not-too-distant future, we will see all the elements of the New Economic Policy being replaced”.
But observers are noting that Najib promise of the NEP change in “not-too-distant future” could mean any time between now and perhaps a century later.
Critics are saying he’s just making a wise move in making news and empty promises to attract new investors when he becomes PM, to convince them that his policy when he’s in-charge are those of the new reforms that has been the Opposition successful platform which has toppled the ruling coalition in the last March general election.
