Well looks like Pakatan is fighting back in court under the notion that Perak Sultan, Sultan Azlan Shah denial of dissolve of state assembly for fresh election is unconstitutional.
Looks like the main plans within the Pakatan ranks to bring the head of state to court, hopefully to regain control of Perak.
Karpal Singh was the loudest of the lot in his recent comments on such action, and there was a demonstration by UMNO Youth outside his office in KL.
Looks like this is going to get nasty.
Karpal Singh Quoted
“But there is no doubt that the Sultan can be taken to court in his official capacity. My view is different from the other leaders on this but I stand by my opinion that a Sultan can be brought to court, whether in a personal or official capacity. He can be taken to court in his personal capacity as a result of the 1993 amendment to the Federal Constitution. I think that even he (Sultan Azlan Shah) knows of this as he was once the Lord President.
But the Pakatan leaders are against filing a suit. Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan had taken the governor Tun Said Keruak for refusing to dissolve the Sabah state assembly then. There is nothing unlawful or treacherous about it. Why all the fuss with Umno Youth coming to intimidate me? Let me make it very clear, that I will not be intimidated by anyone and Umno Youth should stop these demonstrations.
I called the police officer concerned even before the demonstration to ask if there was a permit for them to do it and the officer said no. I asked him why was it being allowed then and the officer said that he was under orders. Why the double standards? Why is our MP Tony Pua and the state assemblyman for Pandamaran being charged for unlawful assembly and nothing is done about Pemuda? Tuesday’s unlawful assembly took place with the assistance of the police.”
