He was the Malaysian lawyer turned politician, becoming a minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, assigned to the Malaysian legal affairs and judicial reform.
However Datuk Zaid Ibrahim resigned from his prominent post on September 15, 2008, criticizing the use of Internal Security Act to detain three prominent individuals recently; Democratic Action Party MP Teresa Kok, blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, and journalist Tan Hoon Cheng
With that BN relinquish his Member of Parliament seating for Kota Bharu as ‘payback’. Talk about injustice after years of service

“I have given 20 years of my political life (to Umno) and I have got into a lot of difficulties because of my views and not that I was disloyal. I have always had different views on many things previously and today
I have been suspended from the party for nothing and now disqualified from running for (the Kota Baru) division election. So what do you want me to do if you are in my position?”
