Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Karpal Singh was served recently with a notice to plead his innocence for the charges of insulting a royal figure.
He pleaded not guilty of insulting Sultan Azlan Shah of the Perak state at the courts in Jalan Duta.
The charges stems from Karpal Singh allegedly threatening to sue the Head of Royal State Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak for consenting to the appointment of the new Perak Menteri Besar.
Karpal Singh if found guilty can be sentenced to three years behind bars for an act that provokes hatred, contempt or disaffection against a state ruler.
