![]() Najib says there will be no censorship of the InternetPublished Sep 8th, 2009Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said that efforts to deal with illegal and immoral activities on the Internet will not lead to the removal of provisions under the Communications and Multimedia Act and the Bill of Guarantees that ensure no censorship of the Internet.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) or Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM) is the regulator for the converging communications and multimedia industry in Malaysia. Its main headquarters at Cyberjaya, Selangor. At the time it was created its key role was the regulation of the communications and multimedia industry based on the powers provided for in the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Act (1998) and the Communications and Multimedia Act (1998). Pursuant to these Acts the role of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is to implement and promote the Malaysian Government’s national policy objectives for the communications and multimedia sector. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is also charged with overseeing the new regulatory framework for the converging industries of telecommunications, broadcasting and on-line activities. ![]()
