Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi time at the top is coming to an end. Signs and more pressure are continuing to mount for him to relinquish his PM post. Initially he planned to hand-over his position to Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak in the year 2010, but Badawi has now offered to stand down early as March to avoid a leadership challenge from within Cracks are appearing within the ranks and more are said to ‘defect’. Sabah Progressive Party will withdraw from the Barisan Nasional coalition and recently the Chinese ethnic dominated Gerakan party has also threaten to leave if Barisan Nasional doesn’t tackle the current racial rift The public has also voiced their views and concern. An independent poll by Merdeka Centre showed that most poll respondents are not in agreement on the use of the controversial Internal Security Act used to detain suspects who are deemed ‘enemy of the state’. They’re being held without trial, after such detainees voiced criticism against the incumbent government and few politicians in particular Come March next year as the nation elect a new leader to lead the country, although Najib appointment is on the cards, we do hope it will be Anwar.
