After much opposition and lengthy debate in Court, High Court Judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohamad Diah had ordered Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy trial to be moved to the High Court.
He ruled that an order signed by the attorney general to move the trial out of the lower Sessions Court and into the High Court is valid.
Anwar defence stating that he faces less bias in the lower court, and the fact of the pending corruption investigation against the attorney general which makes his signing order ineligible, was deemed of less importance.
This is of course not a good news to the Opposition leader as he sees it as an opportunity for the government to extend their political ploy even further in High Court which grants more power to the prosecution.
Anwar could face up to 20 years in jail if convicted.
