Anwar Ibrahim vs Saiful Bukhari
The Court of Appeal has set a date on June 29th to hear his Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy case appeal.
It is to hear his appeal against a High Court decision to move his sodomy case up from a lower court.
Anwar’s sodomy was previously to be held in the lower court back in October 2008, when the Sessions Court judge S Komathy had ruled that her court was qualified to hear the trial.
But High Court judge Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah overturned Komathy’s decision in March 2009.
So now, Anwar is hoping the Sessions Court decision is upheld, so as his case would be transferred down again, where Anwar believe he would be given a more fair trial.
If the application is rejected, the sodomy trial will start as scheduled on July 8th at the High Court.
