DAP, which has been at odds with PAS recently over a few recent issues, has promised that it will throw its full weight behind its Pakatan Rakyat partner for the Permatang Pasir by-election.

Issues like the sale of beer in Selangor, a sensitive and vote-influencing issue among many of the country’s Malays, became the dominant choice of topic in the by-election.

Anwar Ibrahim pointed out that beer sales and gambling outfits were pervasive in Umno controlled states like Pahang and Johor, the states where the Deputy Prime Minister and Prime Minister are from.

It was reported that an elderly man in the Permatang Pasir area was shocked when he found an envelope with three printed papers that looked like RM100 currency notes together with a note asking the recipient to vote for the Barisan Nasional in the by-election on Aug 25.
