Anwar Asks “Why is Umno Causing Fear Over Hudud”

At a rally for the Kuala Terengganu by-election recently, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim questions UMNO motives for bringing up the issue of hudud law over and over again.

Anwar says the Barisan Nasional is driving the voters into voting for someone out of fear.

The defacto leader says the hudud would apply only to Muslims, and if it is indeed implemented, there would be discussion by all Pakatan members.

He added, “Why is Umno silent? Why is Umno causing fear over hudud? It has never been the intention of PAS to introduce legislation that will affect non-Muslims”.

Anwar stance on it is clear, he is neutral to PAS legislation to prescribes Islamic punishments for crimes.

The issue over hudud law have been a weak link in the coalition of opposition party, as DAP, one of the opposition coalition partner threatens to quit, if such laws are implemented.

With that, it is inevitable that the ruling coalition trying to woo the 80,229 voters in Kuala Terengganu, are is using the issue by adding ‘fuel to fire’.

UMNO is contesting the vacant MP seat by fielding Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, while PAS is putting their hopes on Abdul Wahid Endut.

Will UMNO ploy works or will the opposition wins another battle yet again.
