Anwar Disappointed At Kampung Baru Plentong Tengah Land Dispute

The land ownership dispute at Kampung Baru Plentong Tengah has led to the authorities demolishing houses and sending it the police to disperse protesters.

The squatter settlement community lost their case in court but was adamant to save their homes, but in was in vain.

Syarikat Air Johor Holdings (SAJH), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the Civil Defence Department who was there for the demolition was assisted by some 500 plus Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), Police Field Force, canine unit and bomb squad.

The 300 plus villagers protesters was outnumbered, outgunned and those who resisted was arrested

The houses was slated to be demolished on October 29th but the authorities came early.

Now the villagers are stranded with no homes and claims having relocation problems as the designated relocation place Bukit Dagang in Ulu Tiram is inhabitable with swamps

“Saya kesal dengan tindakan biadap pihak berkuasa merempuh dan meroboh kediaman penduduk Kampung Baru Plentong Tengah baru-baru ini. Insiden tersebut mengimbau kenangan saya tatkala berjuang menegak hak rakyat di Tasik Utara lebih tiga dekad lalu. Tindakan rusuh yang dicetuskan oleh pihak berkuasa dan pemaju meski pun mengetahui bahawa keputusan permohonan penduduk berhubung penangguhan pelaksanaan pemusnahan kampung terbabit di Mahkamah Tinggi Johor Bahru telah ditangguhkan ke tarikh 29 Oktober 2008 cukup mengecewakan. Saya menuntut agar jaminan keadilan diberikan kepada semua penduduk yang terjejas.”
