![]() Anti ISA Rally 2009 – The CasualtiesPublished Aug 3rd, 2009On August 1, 2009 about 20,000 protesters took part in the protests against the usage of ISA in three different areas of Kuala Lumpur. The protesters had planned to march to the national palace to submit a petition to the king denouncing the security law.
Reports said there were up to 15,000 to 20,000 demonstrators facing 5,000 police. On the previous day, the police set up roadblocks along several roads leading into the city in a bid to restrict supporters from opposing groups from proceeding with their gathering which the Malaysian government has deem illegal. Malaysian police retaliated by firing tear gas and water cannons at the protesters and arrested dozens of people trying to take part in the protest against a law allowing detention without trial. ![]()
