Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi current portfolio is in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of religious affairs and now coming from his camp, he is said to contest the UMNO number two post, the Umno deputy president
Although unconfirmed now, an official announcement is to be announced soon. Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was a former Umno Youth chief and deputy minister in the tourism and information ministries
The contested post is also being eyed by International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who has been in the spotlight lately for his ‘brash’ comments on PM Badawi to step down

“They want me to stand. I reckon I have enough support to at least get the number of nominations required to challenge. I have always been very loyal to Umno and my track record was tainted by the previous leadership of the party. I am monitoring the party situation closely”
